Aloe vera is one of the most versatile plants you can find in any household. It’s a boon to plant in your garden because of its homoeopathic and therapeutic uses. The leaves of Aloe Vera are filled with numerous enzymes, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, natural sugars, and other bioactive compounds. With emollients, purgative, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, aphrodisiac, anti-helminthic, antifungal, antiseptic, and cosmetic values for health care.

The wonder plant is a short-stemmed shrub. The term Aloe in Aloe Vera is a genus that contains more than 500 species of flowering succulent plants. There are many aloes that occur naturally in North Africa.

Aloe Vera was first used by a human goes back in the 16th century BC. The medical record belonging to Egypt known as Ebers Papyrus mentions Aloe vera. According to the study published in the journal, “The Journal of Dermatology” in ancient Egypt Aloe Vera was referred to as the “Plant of Immortality” 

According to the authors, the plant has been in use for many centuries in China, Japan, Greece, Egypt, Mexico, and Japan.

1. Constipational Uses 

The agency of herbs-Commission in Germany has approved Aloe Vera for the treatment of digestive problems. A dosage of 50 milligrams to 200 milligrams of Aloe Vera is suggested. The latex is consumed in the form of liquid or capsule. On average, you can take it once daily for up to 10 days. It is not advised to consume it for more than that. 

However, the FDA does not have enough data to prove this theory correct. Therefore due to the lack of efficacy of the product Aloe products cannot be sold to treat constipation in the U.S.

2. Foot Ulcers 

In India, the Sinhgad College of Pharmacy published a journal known as “International Wound Journal”  which listed Aloe Vera to treat foot ulcers. According to the report, a gel formed with carbopol 974p (1 per cent) and Aloe Vera promotes healing wounds. 

Compared with other commercial products this product provides promising relief in wound healing and closure in diabetic rats. 

3. Protection from the Harmful rays of the Sun

According to a study performed by scientists at Kyung Hee University Global Campus, South Korea. It was determined whether baby aloe shoot extract and adult Aloe shoot extract might have a protective effect on UV B rays of the sun. The UVA and UV B rays from the sun cause the ageing of the skin and account for other skin problems. 

The gel obtained from Aloe Vera can thus protect the skin from photo ageing. 

4. Irritable bowel syndrome 

Irritable bowel syndrome is an intestinal disorder. It causes pain in the stomach, wind, diarrhoea and constipation. The reason for irritable bowel syndrome is yet to be properly discussed as there are no exact reasons for it. The diagnosis is mostly made based on symptoms and differs from patient to patient.

A random experiment was performed at St. George’s Hospital Medical School, London to test the efficacy of Aloe Vera.

The participants suffering from Irritable bowel syndrome were given Aloe Vera or a placebo. 

After a few months, the patients were studied and researchers wrote “There was no evidence that AV benefits patients with IBS. However, we could not rule out the possibility that improvement occurred in the patients with diarrhoea or alternating IBS whilst taking Aloe-Vera”. 

Therefore the accountability for this experiment is less since the results aren’t very clear.

5. Lower your Blood Sugar Level 

Including two teaspoons of aloe vera juice per day in your diet can help in lowering the risk of type two diabetes. According to a study published in the International Journal of Phytomedicine: aloe juice can cause blood sugar levels to fall in some people with type 2 diabetes. 

However keep in mind if you are someone who takes glucose-lowering medications, use aloe vera cautiously. When taken along with other medications it can lower your blood sugar level to drastically low levels. 

Aloe Vera comes with a lot of benefits but not all of them will suit your needs. Therefore before taking anything into consideration follow the guideline in your country. This will ensure that you do not suffer from any unnecessary ill effects.
